Blending circus, juggling and dance theatre, Moss moves beyond highly precise physical skills to explore the emotions and meanings carried within each movement. Circus is no longer simply a display of virtuosity or entertainment, but a way of entering the inner lives of its characters and touching upon memory, loss, loneliness and the more elusive aspects of human experience. The work unfolds around the image of an abandoned building. Performers move through it and hide within it, climbing upwards before falling freely, then running endlessly around the structure as if time were moving forward only to suddenly reverse itself. The building is both a physical space and a vessel for forgotten dreams and memories. As fiction and reality overlap, the performers move between loss and joy, absence and presence, solitude and dependence. Moss becomes the central metaphor of the work. Without true roots, it quietly spreads across different surfaces. Ancient and resilient, it often grows unnoticed. Like people, events and memories buried by time, what appears to have disappeared may simply continue to grow in another form. Through a circus and theatrical language that resists easy definition, Moss moves between illusion and reality, looking again at the things we have forgotten but that have never truly left us. The production was nominated for the 19th Taishin Arts Award. The jury noted: “High tension circus movements and techniques are no longer presented merely as spectacle and entertainment. The work seeks new possibilities for everyday objects and movements, bringing circus closer to contemporary lived experience.”
