About the Show
Following Moss, FOCASA reunites with German dance theatre duo Peculiar Man for a new collaboration. The work begins with a blank symbol, “□”, a space waiting to be filled, but also a sign of what is absent, unknown or unfinished in our lives.
Onstage, fifteen scaffolding structures form a vast and austere world of order. Eleven performers move through this rigid landscape, repeating precise, regulated actions like workers on an assembly line. Circus disciplines such as human pyramids and juggling are no longer presented as standalone displays of virtuosity, but woven into collective movement and everyday labour. Bodies submit to the system, then slip out of line, constantly shifting between the individual and the collective, reality and dreams.
The Blank Character turns the circus body towards the voids that can never be filled, and towards humanity’s endless pursuit of meaning. Perhaps these blank spaces, the things that resist definition and remain incomplete, are not flaws waiting to be fixed, but places where another kind of freedom can begin.
