When Lin Hwai-min founded Cloud Gate Dance Theatre in 1973, Taiwan had no professional contemporary dance company. When Lin Chih-Wei founded FOCASA in 2011, Taiwan likewise had no contemporary circus company in the true sense of the term. “So you have no choice but to push yourself to the limit—working eighteen hours a day, constantly scrambling to find the money to keep things going,” Lin Hwai-min says. “When I look at Chih-Wei, I don’t really see him. I see myself.”
