If circus is an art of the body, then injury is a language it cannot escape. With the body as its central theme, Do Circus Vol. 14 looks at performers’ training, injuries, recovery and psychological resilience, reconsidering the body as a site of creation, labour and lived experience. Through interviews, essays and critical writing, the issue explores the subtle and complex relationships between technique, pain and care. Designed by Aaron Nieh, the issue takes inspiration from a box of adhesive bandages, disguising the magazine as an everyday first-aid product. Reading becomes more than turning the pages of a publication. It feels like opening a medicine cabinet filled with memories of the body. The design brings form and content into dialogue, reflecting the recurring cycle experienced by circus artists behind the scenes: injury, recovery and beginning again. The result is an object-book about repairing the body, resilience and renewal.
