Contemporary circus challenges more than gravity. It also challenges society’s established ideas about bodies, gender and identity. Do Circus Vol. 15 turns its attention to queer circus, exploring how performance can become a way of reinventing bodies, identities and relationships through artist interviews, performance analysis and cultural commentary. From drag and transgender experiences to non-binary narratives, the issue opens up more diverse ways of seeing circus while asking a fundamental question: who gets to define what is “normal”? Designer Liu Yueh-Teh approaches the issue as a “queer dress-up kit”, transforming reading into a process of unpacking, dressing up and reassembling. The magazine becomes more than a carrier of information. It is an object that can be carried, opened and reconstructed, echoing the fluidity, transformation and continual reinvention of queer culture. Form and content reflect one another, turning the act of reading into an experience of participating in the fluidity of identity.
