One to One Hundred: A Brave Journey is more than an artistic production. It is a stage built for a group of performers who have chosen to stay and keep pursuing their dreams. “I like these young people. They graduated from the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts, and instead of taking better-paid jobs as street performers or on cruise ships, they chose to stay with the company,” says Lin Hwai-min. In them, he sees a sense of dignity and pride in being circus performers. FOCASA founder Lin Chih-Wei invested more than NT$10 million to bring to life a seven-storey-high big top inspired by Jimmy Liao’s picture book The Rainbow of Time. It is even larger than the tent built for the first FOCASA Circus Arts Festival two years ago, bringing with it even greater pressure to fill the seats. But this long-running production is more than a milestone marking FOCASA’s 15th anniversary. It is also a message to the audience: We are still here. We are still working hard. And we still want more people to see us.
